Because you step up and create, even when you have voices in your head screaming How dare you? and Who do you think you are? and Why do you even bother beginning when you know you won’t finish? You keep showing up to be counted. That’s the mark of a hero.
Because you want to learn, you want to evolve, to be the best artist you can be, to create the most incredible art you’re capable of, even if when you start sometimes it feels like you don’t have a clue what you’re doing or why. You’re always hungry to be a better, more creative you. That’s pretty heroic in my eyes.
Because you honour that calling in you that means you must create, you have to create, you know that creating is going to save your life and it might just save my life too. You follow that deep desire within that’s sometimes terrifying to even acknowledge. For that kind of bravery, you’re a hero.
Because every time you create you make things a little better, you make your world a little brighter and fuller and more colourful, and you show that creating is in fact a generous act. You step up and create, it brings happiness to you and those around you. That’s good old epic hero-ness to me.
Because you inspire others to create in ways you’re not even aware, just because you continue to create yourself. Others see your example and inside a little switch flicks on, a little voice says: “Hey it’s ok to create, it’s what we do, it’s what we must do”. Heroes don’t just rescue the helpless, they inspire others to be heroes by their actions too. That’s what you do, and it’s another reason why you’re my hero.
Because you keep trying, even when you feel completely overwhelmed with demands and criticisms, when you feel you barely have time to draw breath, let alone create. You keep trying. You keep creating. One moment at a time, one word at a time, one idea at a time, one artwork at a time. That makes you my hero.
Because you support me in my own creativity, just by being here, just by listening and talking and encouraging, and letting me know you’re on this journey too. You’re right beside me, we’re walking out courageous and creative together. The world’s not going to know what’s hit it my friend…
For all these reasons and a hundred more, you’re my hero. Thank you.
